Quantification of Non-Exhaust Particulate Matter Traffic Emissions and the Impact of COVID-19 Lockdown at London Marylebone Road

This research quantifies current sources of non-exhaust particulate matter traffic emissions in London using simultaneous, highly time-resolved, atmospheric mass and chemical composition measurements. The measurement campaign ran at Marylebone Road (roadside) Honor Oak Park (background) urban monitoring sites over a 12-month period between 1 September 2019 31 August 2020. data were used to determine the increment (roadside–background) covered range meteorological conditions, seasons, driving styles, as well influence COVID-19 “lockdown” on concentrations. Non-exhaust (PM)10 concentrations calculated tracer scaling factors for brake wear (barium), tyre (zinc), resuspension (silicon) average vehicle fleet emission factors, CO2 “dilution approach”. effect lockdown, which saw 32% reduction volume 15% increase speed Road, resulted lower PM10 PM2.5 increments but similar concentrations, confirming that are complex.
